Yo shout to rollingout.com for the article....I think that more so-called "black" movies should show more integrity such as this one is. When the movie Next Day Air hits theater near you this upcoming Mother's Day weekend, you are going hear some "cussin", you are going see somebody get shot at, you might even see some sister show a lil skin, but what you will not HEAR is the word "Nigga". I beleive that if more individuals and more movies featuring our people stand up and become responsible for what we put out for out people to see, then we are on our way to changing how other people see us. Now of coarse this is not the beginning of the re-enlightenment of black people but it is a pretty good start.
According to Harris, who is also the film’s executive producer, the group made a pact that would ensure the absence of the polarizing word in their project. “It was something that was very important to us,” he explains. “It was our way of making a statement that we can express ourselves without using the N-word. But it wasn’t just in the movie that we banned the word. We also banned it on the set. No one could say it at all. At first it was difficult, but we really stayed on top of each other. By the end of … filming, I don’t know if it was something that even came up. We just didn’t say it, and had no desire to. I hope that other people will start trying to find new ways to express themselves as well.”
Next Day Air hits theaters May 8: Starring Wood Harris, Mos Def, Mike Epps and Donald Faison. Check out the trailer....
