BET AWARDS COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

By Tha Chill-One & Young Ream on Monday, June 29, 2009
We all have been devastated by the sudden death of Michael Jackson, and knowing that BET was having it's annual awards show this past Sunday, I, like many fans were expecting a HUGE tribute to the king. In fact, that is the only reason I was going to tune in. I just wanted to see who was going to perform and what was going to happen.

With that said, I was truly disappointed in BET's efforts to honor the greatest performer ever, but I was also dissapointed in the show period. Jamie Fox and Ne-Yo game an outstanding effort with their song at the show's end, but New Edition, with Bobby Brown of course, did a pretty decent job...but that was it. There were rumors that Chris Brown would perform along with Usher in a sort of way that everyone wanted to see but NOTHING! Nobody but Jamie Fox, in a attempt to moonwalk, payed any dance homage to the King Of Dance Moves! I know BET only had a few days to prepare for this, but still they could have done alot better.

Now, as far as the rest of the show, it showed me that even with the death of Michael Jackson in the air, we still act like bafoons. I mean it was terrible. Don Cornellius took for ever to read the tellipromter, the part wher BET so it fit to renact "Baby Boy" on stage, the bad perfomances, the unnecessary joke my Jamie Fox, Young Money perfomance with like too young girls on stage while Lil Wayne is saying "I wish I could Love Every Girl in the world", the fact the I heard more cursing than on anyother awards show network I have ever seen, and other things that were not needed. I am not the only one, many of the Facebook coments were the same. People are just tired of seeing our people act like idiots when the entire world was watching.

The highlight for me was Jay-Z's perfomance. I mean jigga man really brought it. It just hurts me to know that on a network where it is primarily black people on the scenes and behind the scenes, we showed so much of our faults and not enough of our best side. I am dissapointed in BET and I pray that somehow we can do better.

Also, one rumor I heard is that Chris Brown's people were trying to get him on the show and somewhat succeded, but Jay Z threatened to cancel his spot if Chris was allowed to perfom....just a rumor...
